Goals & Reflection
First Quarter Goals & Objectives
Throughout the first quarter, I had expected to adapt to the independence and responsibility given to me during Intern-Mentor "class." I also was introduced to my internship, given tours of the lab, and told what would be expected of me in the lab. I also conducted an original interview and compiled a research hypothesis.
Second Quarter Goals & Objectives
Throughout the second quarter, I continued to conduct experiments on curing PDMS under different conditions at my internship and I compiled a research proposal. I also finished my annotated source list and I came up with plans for my final product and data collection. I feel as though I have a better idea of what final goal I will be working towards.
Third Quarter Goals & Objectives
Throughout the third quarter, I continued to conduct experiments on curing PDMS under different conditions, just as in second and first quarter. However, I also began to re-perform experiments under more precise conditions as well as collect and analyze data. The most prominent of these experiments performed are my investigations of PDMS droplet size on the focal length. A final oral presentation was also created and rehearsed, and a synthesis paper written.
Fourth Quarter Goals & Objectives
In fourth quarter, the time for me to conclude my research project and internship came. I had plans to finish my final product, a paper microscope. Also, while I had originally planned to present my product to a regular-level high school science class, due to time limitations, it was not done. However, I presented to my AP biology class for their evaluation of my microscope, as well as obtain the evaluation of my mentor, Dr. Kyoung, and GT Intern/Mentor teacher, Dr. Kiehl. I made final edits to my research synthesis paper, adding data collection and analysis, results and discussion, and the conclusion, as well as the abstract. A display board summarizing my research throughout this year was also made. An ten-minute oral presentation of my entire project was presented to an AP chemistry class at Mount Hebron High School. A "Thank you card" was also given to Dr. Kyoung and Erin Kennedy for their support of my project throughout the year. I also attended a "Celebration of Excellence" to learn about other GT research projects, and celebrate the end of my project with my mentor, family, friends, and community members.
